Jeddah Airports Company has announced two achievements that reflect its commitment to implementing global best practices in sustainability and operational excellence. Terminal 1 at King Abdulaziz International Airport has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED Gold Certification), while the airport’s aquarium has obtained Saudi Arabia’s first license for a Marine Life Exhibition Center.
Terminal 1 received the LEED Gold Certification, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), in recognition of Jeddah Airports’ commitment to applying the highest sustainability standards in the design and operation of its facilities. Covering an area of approximately 810,000 square meters, Terminal 1 is the largest standalone building in Saudi Arabia to receive this prestigious certification.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system is the world’s most widely recognized green building certification framework. It evaluates buildings across key sustainability criteria, including energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, and responsible resource management, contributing to reduced environmental impact and enhanced operational efficiency.
In a separate milestone, King Abdulaziz International Airport Aquarium has been granted a Marine Life Exhibition Center License by the National Center for Wildlife, becoming the first licensed Marine Life Exhibition Center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The achievement reflects Jeddah Airports’ commitment to upholding the highest national standards in wildlife conservation, environmental sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
These two achievements mark another significant step in Jeddah Airports’ ongoing efforts to enhance its infrastructure, maximize the efficiency of its assets, and implement pioneering initiatives that combine sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence. They further strengthen King Abdulaziz International Airport’s position as a leading gateway to the Kingdom while supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 for the aviation sector.
